Abstract
886,076. Winding yarns; stop-motions. TWEEDALES & SMALLEY Ltd. Sept. 2, 1960 [Sept. 4, 1959], No. 30313/59. Classes 120(1) and 120(2) A doffing apparatus, Fig. 5, for textile machinery, comprises a bobbin supporting cradle 20 that is rotatable about a supporting shaft 19, means biasing the cradle 20 about the shaft 19 to press the bobbin 15 and its winding 17 against a driving roller 23, means for automatically locking the cradle 20 to the shaft 19 when the bobbin 15 is full, and means for automatically causing the shaft 19 and the cradle 20 to rotate to a position B where the wound bobbin is released. The cradle 20 is urged towards the driving roller 23 by a torsion spring reacting against the initially stationary shaft 19. A sliver 11, fed through a guide 13, is wound on to the bobbin 15 to form a cross-wound package 17 and as this increases in diameter the cradle 20 is forced away from the roller 23. When the diameter of the winding 17 reaches a predetermined value, a spring biased bolt in the cradle 20 enters a recess in the shaft 19 or a collar secured thereto to lock the cradle 20 to the shaft 19. A counter of known kind ensures that at this time the motor driving the roller 23 is stopped and that after a slight time delay a second motor coupled to the shaft 19 is started. The shaft 19 then rotates to move the cradle through stations A and B and, at the latter, the wound package engages a deflecting plate 40 that causes the package to leave the cradle 20. The shaft 19 performs a complete rotation to bring the cradle back to its starting position, at which instant a cam actuated micro-switch stops the motor turning the shaft 19. A machine operator withdraws the spring biased bolt manually and inserts an empty bobbin in the cradle 20. The wound packages roll into a tray 47 where they engage a switch arm 48 to open the circuit to the main driving motor. A fresh winding operation cannot, therefore, be started until the wound package has been removed. Each bobbin 15 may contain two wound packages in side-by-side relationship. Specification 878,671 is referred to.
