885,759. Guns for firing blank ammunition. KONGSBERG VAPENFABRIK. Feb. 1, 1960 [Feb. 4, 1959], No. 3496/60. Classes 92 and 119. Relates to a recoil-operated gun, e.g. an anti-aircraft gun and to an arrangement for use when firing blank ammunition for practising so that the recoil and general behaviour of the gun is exactly as if ordinary live ammunition had been used. According to the invention the barrel 1 is slidably supported in a cylinder 2 and recoils against the action of a spring 3, the end of the cylinder being provided with a cap 5 forming an extension of the cylinder in which slides an annular piston 6 secured to the barrel. The barrel is formed with ports 9 leading from its bore to the inside of the cap 5 above the piston 6, so that the gas pressure drives the piston and barrel rearwardly to provide adequate recoil, the gases being exhausted through openings 12 in the cap 5. A choke 11 is provided in the bore of the barrel and the dimensioning and design of the choke 11, ports 9 and openings 12 are such that the gun behaves as if ordinary ammunition had been used. The barrel 1 is a practice barrel since the ports 9 and choke 11 render it useless for ordinary ammunition.
