Abstract
885,658. Tractor driving gear. COUNTY COMMERCIAL CARS Ltd. Dec. 2, 1959 [Dec. 2, 1958], No. 22218/61. Divided out of 881,346. Class 79(2). A motor vehicle, e.g. a tractor comprises driven steerable wheels and driven non-steerable wheels. The non-steerable wheels 9, Fig. 1, are driven from lay shafts 11 from a differential gear, not shown, through a transmission, not shown, their axes being denoted by the broken line. A case 80 is mounted upon a supporting structure 81 pivotally mounted at 82 to the tractor frame and is secured to a casing 89 pivotally supported in a spherical socket connected to the casing 93 containing the lay shaft 11. Each wheel 41 rotates upon a shaft 77 mounted in a housing 86 having a spherical part 87 embracing a spherical member 88 attached to the casing 80 and being connected to a steering linkwork transmission. The shaft 77 is driven through a universal joint 84 from a shaft 78 upon which is mounted a bevel gear 79 in mesh with another bevel 79 carried by a shaft 72 driven through a universal joint 74 and bevels 76 from shaft 11. In a modification, Fig. 2, the non-steerable wheels are driven through a half-shaft 17 from which the drive to the steerable wheels is taken by sprockets 97 and 93 and chain 94.
