[Also in Group XXII] A straightening roll, for a roll straightening machine for bars and profiles, is clamped on a spindle against a rigid countersupport by a contractible ring of wedge-shaped section, one face of which bears, directly or indirectly, on the roll and the other on a collar of the spindle. A straightening roll 3 is held on a sleeve 4 by a clamp nut 5 and key 7. The sleeve 4 is keyed at 6 on a spindle 1 and is held up against a fixed stop 11 thereon by a clamp ring 8, an inclined face 8b of which engages the end of the sleeve 4 and its other face 8a, which may also be inclined, engages a collar 10 on the spindle 1. The ring 8 is in two parts 8c, 8d, pivoted to one another at 13, and closed by a screw 14 so that the ring contracts to hold the sleeve 4 against the stop 11. When released by a few turns the screw 14 may pivot on a cross pin 16 so that the ring 8 may be opened out. The clamp nut 5 may be replaced by a clamp ring similar to the ring 8. The ring 8 may bear against the clamp nut 5 through an interposed ring 17, Fig. 2 (not shown).
