Abstract

885,500. Automatic gramophones. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. March 31, 1958 [March 30, 1957], No. 10181/58. Class 40 (2). In a gramophone record apparatus in which a gauging member on the pick-up arm, such as a roller, automatically traverses the surface of a record to be played and gauges its diameter, means are provided for increasing the downward pressure of the pick-up arm during the traversal of the gauging member. The apparatus described embodies well-known means for lifting the pick-up from the record during the first stage of an automatic cycle, as in a record changer, comprising a vertically moving camoperated rod 7 which comes into contact with an abutment 11 to lift the pick-up arm 5 about a pivotal axis 4. During playing of a record the stylus pressure is reduced by a spring 15 anchored to the arm at 16 and to the arm support at a point on a lever 17 acting against a stop 19. While the rod 7 is in its upward position an abutment 20 thereon moves one end of lever 17 upward about pivot 18 so that the other end is lowered towards the pivotal axis 4 and thereby reduces the lifting effect of spring 15. During the second stage of the automatic cycle when the gauging member 13 is resting on the record surface the rod 7 is in a position just out of contact with abutment 11, and the downward pressure of the arm 5 is thus greater than during record playing when the rod 7 is in the lowermost position shown in the Figure.
