Abstract

1,181,361. Supporting gramophone pick-up arms. D. J. C. BECK. 14 Feb., 1967 [30 Nov., 1965], No. 50689/65. Heading G5R. A gramophone pick-up arm is doubly supported to allow pivoting vertically and horizontally, and horizontally respectively, only one support being operative at any one time. As shown, the arm 14 is normally supported by a unipivot 13, 16 but the application of fluid, by a lever or automatically, to a bellows 19 raises a sleeve 18 to enter a recess in member 15 so that the arm is lifted bodily. A ball engages in a socket 21 to steady the assembly and magnets 22, 23 raise the arm before the member 15 and sleeve 18 engage to prevent the stylus jumping. The conductors 24 are coiled and connected between pillars 25, 26 to provide side thrust compensation and may be attached to polyester films. The base 11 may be adjustable for height (Fig. 2, not shown) for use in playing a record stack. In a modification, the arm is suspended by a wire or fibre, which may be twisted to provide side thrust compensation, and is rendered inoperative when a sleeve having a conical end as above is raised.
