Abstract

889,661. Automatic gramophones. HANSEN, H. C. May 27, 1958 [May 31, 1957], No. 7387/57. Addition to 862,004. Class 40 (2). In an automatic gramophone in which records are supported on a stepped centre post-and released one by one to the turntable, means are provided for engaging the centre hole of the lowermost record and pulling said record down to an intermediate position in which a feeler member gauges the diameter of the record to adjust the start-of-play position of the pick-up, after which the record is released to the turntable. The apparatus is substantially as in Specification 859,372 but is provided with a centre-post having a two-position unseating lever, the appropriate operating cam on the control cam-disc being suitably modified to obtain the double movement of the unseating lever. The centre-post comprises a stepped channel-shaped element 500, Figs. 17 and 18, a double-toothed unseating lever 524 to which is attached, as by a pin or welding at 536a, a channel-shaped member 530 which surrounds the lever 524 and rests in the channel of the centre-post 500 so that ears 538 and 540 of the member 530 may slide up and down flat surfaces 542a and 542b on the centre post 500. The centre-post is provided with a member 512 at its upper end whereby records passing thereover are caused to be moved to the left, as viewed in Figs. 14, 15 and 16, and come to rest on the step 529 of the unseating lever 524. The member 512 is slotted to facilitate withdrawal of records, and its lowermost end terminates at a little more than the thickness of a record above the step 529. During the first part of an automatic cycle the lever 524 moves the lowermost record to the right against the ears 538, 540, Fig. 15, after which the lever 524 and member 530 is lowered to the intermediate position shown in Fig. 16 during which time a feeler member on the pick-up arm gauges the diameter of the record and sets the pick-up arm relative to a cam-follower frictionally coupled thereto so that the pick-up becomes preset to the correct setting down radius for the record tested. Further rotation of the cam-disc controlling the automatic cycle causes the unseating lever 524 to be withdrawn into the centre-post 500 so that the record supported on the lever 524 is dropped on to the turntable, after which the lever 524 is raised to its initial position.
