Abstract

903,535. Record changers. STEIDINGER, O., and STEIDINGER, S., [trading as STEIDINGER KOMM-GES. GEB.]. Nov. 30, 1960 [Dec. 5, 1959], No. 41137/60. Class 40 (2). Means in a record changer for setting a pickup down in the run-in groove of a record comprises a sensing member 7 having two arms 30, 31, whereby the diameter of a record to be played is either detected while being released on to the turn-table or while disposed on the turn-table. When being lowered automatically, the record engages the arm 30 of the sensing member 7 and rotates it counterclockwise, as viewed in Fig. 1, and draws a 3-step abutment member 11, frictionally coupled to a crank 8, to a position corresponding to the size of the record detected. As the pick-up is fed inwardly, an arm 4 rigid with the pick-up engages one of the steps on the abutment member and determines the setting down position. As the pick-up is set down a cam on a cycling cam disc 5<SP>1</SP> withdraws the abutment arm 11 from the arm 4 by means of a slide 16 to allow the pick-up to traverse the record. With the commencement of a fresh automatic cycle at the end of a record the cam on disc 5<SP>1</SP> moves away from the proximity of slide 16 to restore sensing member 7 and associated parts to the initial position shown in Fig. 1, and a fresh cycle proceeds. When a fresh record however is placed manually on the turn-table the arm 30 of the sensing member 7 is unable to sense the diameter of the record, but a recordsteadying member 21 is then in its lower position and, through the medium of a lever 22, the sensing member 7 is raised so that the arm 31 thereon instead detects the size of the record, as it lays on the turn-table.
