Abstract

885,149. Valves. MATHER & PLATT Ltd. Feb. 8, 1960 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 5441/59. Class 135. A valve for controlling the supply of water or fluid which must be supplied with the minimum of delay, e.g. in fire protection systems, is operated by a rotatable spindle f which is adapted to be engaged at opposite ends by a ratchet spanner, this spindle extending at such ends through walls of the valve casing, each wall having a slot pq and no respectively therein which allows of the insertion of the ratchet spanner and also permits it to turn the spindle, one continuous movement of the spanner when on one end of the spindle serving to open the valve fully, whilst several back and forth movements of the spanner when on the other end of the spindle are necessary to close the valve, there being means for preventing the valve operating means travelling in one direction through an angle greater than 180 degrees between the valve fully open and valve fully closed position or vice versa. As shown, the diaphragm valve closure a is operated through an eccentric and strap arrangement e, c, d, the opening and closing movements being limited to 180 degrees by a stop g.
