Abstract

1,254,162. Valves. HARPER-WYMAN CO. 4 Feb., 1969 [21 Feb., 1968], No. 5952/69. Heading F2V. Gas flow to a main burner 28 is shut off by a safety valve 20 when a pilot burner 30 is extinguished. The valve is actuated by a lever 24 acted upon by a thermal power element 22, 46. The lever carries a hook 66 engageable with pivot pins 62 to define the pivot point of the lever. The lever also carries an adjustable member such as the screw 70, defining the point of application of the actuating force at the element 22. This member 70 is retractable to allow the lever to be readily assembled, and in its adjusted position for operation of the valve prevents disengagement of the hook. The device gives precise determination of the short lever arm between the pivot and element 22, without tolerance or assembly difficulties. Two pivot pins carried by opposed side walls 12b of the valve housing 12, are provided. The housing is closed by a cover.
