Abstract
Examples are given of the preparation of formazan dyes of the general formula R1-N=N-C(R2)=N-NH-R3 wherein R1 and R3 are aryl or substituted aryl groups and R2 is hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl, hydroxy, carboxy or nitrile, by reacting a diazonium salt with a hydrazone R2CH=N-NH-R3. In these examples, R1 and R3 are phenyl, tolyl, chlorophenyl, sulphophenyl, carboxyphenyl, sulphonamidophenyl or 4-dodecyl-2(or 3) sulphophenyl, and R2 is H, methyl, ethyl, propyl, phenyl or dodecoxyphenyl.
