Abstract

The invention comprises alkoxybenzenesulphonamido-1 : 2 : 4-thiadiazoles of the formula: <FORM:0858189/IV(b)/1> wherein Ar is a phenyl radical substituted with an alkoxy radical of 1-4 carbon atoms, e.g. p-methoxy, p-ethoxy or p-butoxy, and R is an alkyl or alkoxyalkyl radical of 1-4 carbon atoms, e.g. methyl or ethyl, or a phenyl, benzyl or methylmercapto radical, and their preparation either by reacting a 5-halo-3-substituted-1 : 2 : 4-thiadiazole with an alkoxybenzenesulphonamide in the presence of an acid binding agent, or reacting a 5-amino-3-substituted-1 : 2 : 4-thiadiazole with a functional derivative of an alkoxybenzenesulphonic acid, e.g. the chloride, bromide, fluoride or azide, in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as a trialkylamine, pyridine, potassium carbonate or sodium carbonate.
