Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of formula: <FORM:0845248/IV(b)/1> where R1 is C1-55 alkyl or benzyl, either of which may be substituted, e.g. by nitro, and R2, R3 and R4, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen or C1-5 alkyl. They are prepared by reacting a compound: <FORM:0845248/IV(b)/2> where R1 is C1-5 alkyl with a compound: <FORM:0845248/IV(b)/3> or a salt thereof. A condensing agent such as an alkali metal alkoxide and an inert diluent such as an aliphatic alcohol are preferably used. Specified starting materials are benzyl and n-butyl a -ethoxymethylenenitroacetates, crysteine and penicillamine. Specification 842,797 is referred to.
