Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1034573/C2/1> in which R is an alkoxyalkyl group or an -R1SO3Me or R1OSO3Me group in which R1 represents an alkylene group and Me is hydrogen or an alkali metal. They may be prepared by reacting formaldehyde or substances yielding formaldehyde and a primary amine of formula RNH2 with hydrogen sulphide in alkaline solution or with an alkali metal hydrogen sulphide. The process may be carried out in the presence of a solvent, for example water or an aqueous alcohol, preferably at room temperature. Examples are given of the preparation of compounds of the above formula in which R is -CH2CH2SO3Na, -CH2CH2CH2OCH3 and -C2H4OSO3H.ALSO:Nematocidal compositions comprise compounds of <FORM:1034573/A5-A6/1> in which R is an alkoxy alkyl group or an -R1SO3Me or -R1OSO3Me group in which R represents an alkylene group and Me is hydrogen or an alkali metal, and an inert carrier.
