Abstract
Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0834839/IV(c)/1> wherein R is an alkyl or aralkyl group, R1, R4 and R5 are each hydrogen or an alkyl group, R2 and R3 are each hydrogen or an alkyl or aryl group, and X is an anion, are prepared by reacting a 2-methyl-pyrrolinium quaternary salt with a nitrobenzaldehyde. Examples are given of the preparation of compounds wherein R is methyl, ethyl or benzyl, R1 is H or methyl, R2 is phenyl and R3 is H, or R2 and R3 are both H or both methyl, and R4 and R5 are both H or both methyl.
