Abstract
884,380. Controlling vehicles. LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN A.G. GES. FUR. Sept. 22, 1959 [Sept. 24, 1958], No. 32249/59. Class 79(5). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a motor vehicle having a combined hand and foot brake (Group XXXIV), a pedal 4 is operatively connected to the brakes of the vehicle and a two-armed lever 3 is pivoted at 1 on the chassis of the vehicle, the longer arm 7 of the lever 3 extends upwardly from the pivot and the upper end of the arm 7 is provided with a handle 8, situated forwardly of the steering wheel of the vehicle, by which the lever 3 may be pulled rearwardly by the driver of the vehicle, the shorter arm 5 of the lever being arranged to actuate the pedal in the direction to operate the brakes when the handle 8 is pulled. In the tractor vehicle illustrated, the free end of the short arm 5 of the twoarmed hand-brake lever 3 is provided with a roller 9 arranged to actuate the brake pedal 4. A pawl 12 engages notches 13 in the long arm 7 of the lever 3 to retain the hand brake in its applied position. In an alternative arrangement (not shown) a draw bar is connected to the end of the long arm 7. With the exception of the handle portion 8, the lever 3 may be located within a casing 10 housing the motor of the vehicle.
