884,085. Foldable boxes and blanks therefor. MEAD CORPORATION. March 7, 1960, No. 8004/60. Class 18. A collapsible box is made from a blank 10, Fig. 7, scored and cut to form foldably connected side walls 12, 14, 16, 18 foldably connected by a bottom wall 28 to side wall liner panels 20, 22, 24, 26, the panels 20, 22, 26 having extensions 30, 32, 34 which are superposed on the wall 28 to reinforce the base. Edge flaps 36, 38 extend from the panel 20 and wall 12 and are used to staple the walls together. Closure flaps 40, 42, 44, 46 extend from the upper edges of the walls 12, 14, 16, 18. Fold lines 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 in the side walls and cover flaps and fold 48 in the bottom wall 28 are used to collapse the box after assembly, Fig. 1. A tear-tab 66 is provided at the end of spaced score lines 68 forming a tear strip backed by a reinforcement such as fibre glass tape, Fig. 7. In a modification, Fig. 13, cover flaps 106, 110 extend beyond flaps 104, 108, which are arranged to fold concertina-wise. Side edges of some of the panels may be cut away to form tongues and notches, which interengage when the box is assembled. The liner panels may be cut to form partitions 290, 292, Fig. 30. The boxes, which may be used for packing nails, are preferably made of paperboard.
