Abstract

883,905. Forming-surfaces for paper-making. PORTALS Ltd., and TOOTH, A. J. April 1, 1959 [Jan. 2, 1958], No. 213/58. Class 96. A cylinder paper-making machine mouldcovering or a hand-mould is formed of porous metal, e.g. of sintered bronze 0.1 inch thick and of grade 40, or e.g. of grade 600, or of sintered stainless steel. A rigid metal cylinder 1 with spoked ends has perforations 5 interconnected by channels 6 and covered by e.g. sinteredbronze, curved tiles held in place as by fine wires 10 threaded through them and through lands 7. The tiles may have patterns to provide watermarks, e.g. for banknote paper. The extreme ends of the cylinder may be sealed by waterproof tape or plastic to form deckles.
