Abstract

[Also in Groups XXIX] In a shut-off valve for a refrigeration unit comprising an elongated valve body 13, Fig. 3, having axial and transverse passageways 15, 16 and a valve member 20 axially movable in the valve body to shut off communication between the passageways, the passageway 16 is formed in a body projection 17 which allows the valve to be sealingly connected to the unit, with the axis of the valve body in any desired angular position with respect to the unit. In one embodiment, the projection 17 is rotatally mounted in a diamond-shaped flange 32, Fig. 1, secured to the unit by bolts 39. The projection 17 is formed with an annular projecting rim 31 which engages in a recess 33 in the flange, a sealing gasket 37 being squeezed between the unit face and faces on the projection and flange. In another embodiment, the flange 32 is replaced by a coupling nut which engages a screwthreaded boss on the unit and an annular rim is formed on the boss and engages a recess on an oppositely facing surface on the valve body. A tubular fitment 29 on the valve body which is normally closed by a cap 30 permits the fitting of a pressure gauge and a conical face 22 on the valve member 20 seals against the valve body to augment the gland packing 25 and copper washers 23, 28a when the valve is open.
