Abstract
883,294. Cast iron. INTERNATIONAL NICKEL CO. (MOND) Ltd. April 25, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 14081/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 72. [Also in Group XXII] Cast iron is vibrated during solidification in the mould to break up hyper-eutectic carbides, make dendrites smaller, achieve graphitisation &c. A malleable iron may be produced by vibrating a predominantly white iron during solidification and thereafter annealing at a temperature of from 850‹C.- 1000‹C. for a period of 4-36 hours. The process may also be applied to spheroidal graphite cast iron, free carbides being wholly eliminated by the vibration, with or without the use of an inoculant such as ferro-silicon.
