Abstract
A method of manufacturing grey cast iron having the so-called eutectic graphite structure (Graphite Flake Chart, No. D, specified in U.S.A.-A.S.F. and U.S.A.-A.S.T.M. Graphite Flake Classification in grey cast iron) comprises keeping the liquid cast iron in contact with a liquid basic slag containing more than 1 and up to 15 per cent of titanium dioxide, by weight, and then casting into sand or metal moulds. The time of contact of slag and metal varies inversely with the weight of slag and the titanium dioxide content of the slag.
