883,007. Centrifugal pumps. GARDNER, L. F. (Klein, Schanzlin & Becker A.G.). June 1, 1959, No. 18552/59. Class 110 (1). In a two-stage centrifugal pump built up from components of single-stage centrifugal pumps, the impeller diameters of which form a series with geometric progression, each diameter in the series bearing a ratio of one to the tenth root of ten, i.e., substantially 1 : 1.26, to the next larger diameter, the impeller diameter of the second stage is greater than that of the first stage, and the volute casing of the first stage is replaced by a diffuser leading to the second stage. The use of different diameters for the two impellers gives a greater choice of discharge heads. In the two-stage pump shown, in which the diameter of the second-stage impeller 3 is about 1.26 times that of the firststage impeller 2, the impellers 2, 3 and the second-stage volute easing 4 are standard single-stage components. An interstage diffuser 6 is provided.
