Abstract

882,841. Constructional members; walls and roofs. NOAKES, F. R. Dec. 4, 1957 [Sept. 4, 1956], No. 27023/57. Classes 20(2) and 20(4) A constructional member 20 of channel section has inturned lips 21 and three ribs 23, 24, projecting into the channel from its base, the middle ribs 23 being in the centre of the base. Two such metal members 20 may be joined by a channel section 26 of the shape illustrated in association with a channel section 34 and screws 31 with countersunk heads. Panels may be clamped between the lips 21. A right angle joint between two members each comprising a member 20 and section 26 may be effected as illustrated in Fig. 14 where two horizontal members 20 are joined by a section 26 with cut out flanges which embrace the sides of an upright member 20, the inner flange of the member 26 (or a separate channel section illustrated in Fig. 5, not shown) engaging in horizontal recesses in the vertical section 26. Screws engage threaded holes fitted with bushes to secure the joint. Right angle joints at angled planes in a roof construction are provided by slots at only one side of the member (Fig. 9, not shown, refers). An upright arising from the mitred joint of two horizontal members 20, Fig. 11, comprises four members 59 bolted to two members 56 which are bolted over a square bracket 54 bolted to the joint. Panels may be mounted in the ribs 23, 24 by insertion into glued cushioning fillets (Figs. 12, & 15, not shown, refer). The member, which may be made of plastics, can be used for wall, floor ceiling or roof frames.
