Abstract

882,326. Bearings. TIRASPOLSKY, W., ROUVIERE, R-F., and CHARE, J. Feb. 27, 1958 [March 1, 1957], No. 6443/58. Class 12 (1). In a fluid thrust bearing, e.g. for an electric or hydraulic subterranean drilling machine, comprising a body 1 housing a stack of cylindrical parts 2 carrying integral bearing discs 3 with rubber shoe members 4, 5 which cooperate with discs 7 separated by bracing ring members 8 and fast on a drive shaft 6, downwardly converging lubricant flow channels 9 are formed in the bearing discs 3 in order to increase the rate of fluid flow through the bearing. Lubricating fluid also flows along channels 10 between the shoes 4, through a gap 11 between the discs 3 and the rings 8, and along corresponding channels 10 between the shoe members 5 to join the main lubricating stream. The shoe members 4, 5 may be interconnected by a rubber lining arranged opposite the ring members 8, and the discs 7 may have a downwardly convergent frusto-conical shape so that the fluid channel adjacent each disc has a flared shape.
