829,482. Stuffing-box substitutes. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. Jan. 2, 1957 [Jan. 16, 1956], No. 139/57. Divided out of 829,481. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a rotary thrust bearing or fluid seal, one thrust member 1, Fig. 1, is provided with a facing layer of bearing material 5 having an annular plane surface 2 in which a series of spaced ramps 6 is formed, each ramp being inclined upwardly from a radial oil &c. supply groove 7 which is fed from a radial drilling 13 beneath the ramp and through a circumferential groove 3 in the bearing material 5. Each drilling is spaced a short distance only from the surface of the respective ram and lies preferably below that part which is most heavily loaded. Radial oil outlet grooves 9 are also provided. The second thrust member 10 is shown in Fig. 3, which is a developed sectional view along the line II-II of Fig. 1.
