Abstract

1,245,451. Rolling bearings. SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN G.m.b.H. 4 Oct., 1968 [7 Oct., 1967], No. 47143/68. Heading F2A. A rolling bearing assembly has races 1, 2 of sheet metal with the outer race 1 housed in a sheet metal sleeve 10. Each race has, in radial cross-section, two radially spaced limbs 5, 6, 7, 8 extending axially from a base, the limbs of one race extending in the opposite direction from the limbs of the other race. Movement in one axial direction is prevented by contact between the races and the rolling elements 4. Radially extending flanges 11, 7 are provided on each race for restricting axial movement in the other direction. The flanges on the races may be provided on auxiliary members (19, Fig. 3, not shown) secured to the races. The flanges may be so shaped as to provide a labyrinth seal between the races or a sealing ring (17, Fig. 2, not shown) may be provided between the flanges. The outer race and the sleeve may be so shaped as to define a chamber 13 between them containing lubricant or a vibration damping material. When lubricant is contained in the chamber, apertures 14, 15 are provided in the outer race to permit flow of lubricant to the bearing.
