Abstract

1,204,345. Bearings. McGILL MFG. CO. Inc. 16 Oct., 1967, No. 47098/67. Heading F2A. A bearing assembly has a seal extending into grooves 32, 30 in respective inner and outer concentric members 15, 12, angularly spaced indentations 60 in the outer radial face of the seal allowing passage of lubricant between the seal and the outer side of a groove. The seal is an interference fit in the outer groove and a running fit in the inner groove, and the indentations extend from the inner peripheral surface of the seal to beyond the outer wall of the groove. On re-lubricating, lubricant under pressure is supplied through holes 28 and the seals move axially outward but venting is allowed through the indentations. The seal may have indentations on the inner radial surface arranged out of phase to those on the outer surface.
