Abstract

1,249,113. Integral bearing and seal. RICHARD KLINGER Ltd. 23 Oct., 1968 [6 Nov., 1967], No. 50439/67. Headings F2A and F2B. A shaft 2 is journalled in the wall 4 of a vessel or container under fluid pressure by means of an annular bush 6, made, e.g. of PTFE, which also serves as a seal to prevent loss of fluid from the vessel. One-third of the bush at the end which is adjacent the inside of the vessel, is formed to taper towards the end in the absence of the shaft so that when the shaft is positioned in the bush an interference fit results between the bush and the shaft. The remaining twothirds of the bush constitutes the bearing when the shaft is in position. A series of circumferential grooves 10 may be formed in the outer surface of the annular member, to further seal the vessel. Radial flanges 8 may be provided at each end of the bush to locate it in the wall.
