Abstract

1,220,985. Oil seals. STEFA INDUSTRI A.B. 16 April, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 17806/68. Heading F2B. An oil seal for a rotary shaft is provided with a number of spaced-apart projections 19 on the oil-free side of the sealing edge 16, the projections being bow-formed at least at their parts close to the sealing edge so as to provide wedgeshaped spaces between them and the sealing edge. The projections may be cylindrical, elliptical, polygonal or formed of a segment of a circle and form shaft-contacting surfaces 20 which co-operate with the sealing edge 16 for returning any oil leaking past the sealing edge 16 irrespective of the direction of rotation of the shaft.
