882,299. Bearings. AUTO UNION G.m.b.H. Sept. 19, 1958 [Sept. 19, 1957], No. 30109/58. Class 12 (1). A ball bearing for the crank-shaft journal of an I.C. engine which is packed with lubricant within sealing rings 8, 9, is provided with additional sealing devices 12, 14 and 13, 15 between the bearing and the interior of the crankcase. As shown, spring sealing rings 14, 15 are arranged in annular grooves in packing rings 12, 13. Grooves 18, 19 in the rings 12, 13 may be connected by passages to the atmosphere and to the induction manifold of the engine so that the spaces between the packings is constantly supplied with fresh air. In a modified arrangement the packing rings 12, 13 are replaced by membrane discs secured to the inner ball-race and in sealing engagement with the outer race..
