678,992. Stuffing-box substitutes. ROULEMENTS A BILLES MINIATURES SOC. ANON. July 20, 1950 [Sept. 2, 1949], No. 18175/50. Class 122(v) [Also in Group XXXIV] In a bearing 1, lubricant is retained in a surrounding envelope having covers 5, 6 ,each side of the bearing by capillary gaps 8, 9 formed between the covers and shaft 2, and a capillary space 13 conveys oil to the gap 9. The space 13 is formed by a bowl-like cover 10 having bosses 11, 12, which is pressed into the cover 5. Truncated conical portions on the shaft are provided adjacent the capillary gaps. In the case of a horizontal shaft shown in Fig. '3, each cover is provided with an inner cover 10<SP>1</SP> forming capillary spaces, and outer dust covers 20 may be provided. The device is applicable to ball, roller, or plain bearings.
