882,275. Mixing appliances. BOJNER, G., and BOJNER, G. July 20, 1960 [Aug. 24, 1959], No. 25297/60. Class 86. A continuous discharge mixing machine for granular materials has a horizontal rotary cylindrical drum (carried on and rotated by pairs of rollers 4. Within the drum is a freely rolling cage-like strainer comprising an inner helical stirring and conveying member 12, outer longitudinal stirring members 11 and end rings 14. Material is loaded through the shoot 5; the inner part of the mass in the drum slides down to the bottom of the drum, the middle part is continuously axially conveyed by the member 12 and the outer portion is lifted by the members 11 and falls upon the top of the mass. Discharge takes place through the chamber and shoot 6, 6<SP>1</SP>. The helical member 12 may have transverse cleats to reduce wear by the sliding of material along its surface, see Fig. 3 (not shown). The rolling cage may have an additional like cage rolling within it, or may be polygonal or may be divided into two or more units placed end to end. There may be inlets and outlets for heating, cooling, drying or reaction gases.
