Abstract

1435156 Drying particulate material NAUTAMIX PATENT AG 20 July 1973 [20 July 1972] 34800/73 Heading F4G [Also in Division B1] The invention concerns a method of and an apparatus for drying particulate material. The method comprises mechanically agitating the material in a vessel 12 of a drying apparatus and simultaneously sweeping the material with a gas introduced into the vessel. The gas introduced into the vessel is pre-dried to a dew point of less than 36‹ F. and is heated to a temperature of less than 400‹ F. As shown the vessel 12 forms part of a mixer 10, a screw conveyer 16 universely mounted at one end at the bottom of the vessel being rotatable about its own axis and being mounted at its other end on a rotatable arm 20 being provided in the vessel. The gas is dried in a drier 11 and from thence passes by way of a valve 36 to a heater 34. From the heater 34 the gas passes into a chamber 29 and from there through a porous plate, e.g. of sintered stainless steel, into the vessel. The pressure of the gas is less than that which would cause fluidization of any of the material. The dew point of the gas may be from -10‹ to -40‹ F. The vessel may have a part-cylindrical section and the screw conveyer may be conical or twin agitators may be provided.
