Abstract
5647. Simon, R., Simon, W. G., and Simon, F. R. March 5. Screw and like conveyers.-Wet materials are dried and, in the process, are mixed with a proportion of material already dried, in a rotary-agitator machine, by providing a valve, slide, &c. in the casing of the drier or in that of a conveyer combined therewith, which discharges a regulable quantity of material and returns a regulable quantity to the feed-end of the drier. In the apparatus shown, wherein the conveyer casing is outside the drier and connected with it by openings D, E, wet material is fed by a tube J into the conveyer casing, and is carried to the opening E, whence it passes through the drier in the reverse direction and is dried by the cylinder H therein, passing out to the conveyer. Before again reaching the feed-point, part is discharged through an aperture F provided with a slide G and, it may be, covered by a sieve. In modifications, the conveyer may be within the casing of the drier, may consist of two or more helices of the same or opposite sense, and may be provided with elevators.
