882,194. Shovels. KIRKEL, L. Nov. 27, 1959 [Nov. 27, 1958], No. 40424/59. Class 6(2). [Also in Groups XIV and XXIII] A combination tool comprising an axe, pick, shears and detachable shovel, saw blade and screwdriver has a handle consisting of two parts 3, 6 of semicircular cross-section pivoted together at 7 and carrying shear jaws 4, 5 respectively, the handle part 3 carrying an extension forming an axe 1 and a pick 2. The handle parts 3, 6 are held in closed position by a threaded ring 12 fitted to the end of the handle part 6 and adapted to cover the end of the handle part 3 to form a cylindrical handle for the detachable shovel 14 which is pivoted to the end of the handle by two semicircular hooks 8 on the pick and axe member which engage a spindle 19 supported between upstanding ears on a plate 16 riveted to the spade. The shovel 14 may be locked in three different angular positions with regard to the handle by engagement of a flat tongue 13, at the end of the handle part 6, in one of three castellations 20 in a central, upstanding plate 17 on the plate 16. To release the tongue the two handle parts are separated. The opening of the handle part is limited by stops 21, 22 thereon. The shovel is detached and the cylindrical handle together with the shears, axe and pick are used for securing and stretching a saw blade. A sleeve device used for protecting the edge of the axe blade may be used as a handle for a screwdriver.
