Abstract

The invention comprises 7-methyl-morpholyl-theophylline having the formula <FORM:0881827/IV (b)/1> said compound being a white powder which is soluble in water, only poorly soluble in alcohol and practically insoluble in ether and having a m.p. within the range 174 DEG C.-177 DEG C. and the preparation thereof by suspending thiophylline in an alcohol, adding thereto a substantially equimolecular quantity of morpholine with agitation, then slowly adding formalin, separating any theophylline remaining in suspension, allowing the solution to stand at ordinary temperature, cooling this solution to precipitate the product which is then filtered off, drained and washed first with ethanol and then with acetone, and finally air-drying the washed residue.
