Abstract

881,604. Fourdrinier paper-making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Feb. 17, 1960 [July 13, 1959], No. 5646/60. Class 96. In a Fourdrinier paper-making machine having a water-lubricated, perforated, travelling belt 21 supporting the wire-cloth 11a and the web W as it passes over the suction boxes 14, a seal 25a, extending from the end-face of the last suction box 14 covers the undersides of the perforations of the belt 21 to prevent air from rushing in and from throwing water against the wire-cloth and thus causing " wet streaks " in the paper web. The seal 25a may be of solid or hollow metal construction. It slopes downwardly so that the perforations are not uncovered until the belt 21 is well clear of the wire 11a. The turning-roll 23 supporting the belt 21 may be driven by mechanism 26 &c., or, in a modification the drive for the belt 21 may be by the wire-cloth, and the roll 23 &c. dispensed with, a larger, arcuate seal, with water lubrication &c., guiding the belt 21 on to its return run.
