Abstract
881,052. Core-boxes. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. April 13, 1960 [April 15, 1959], No. 13208/60. Class 83 (1). A method of forming a one-piece core for use in casting a vaned wheel having a number of integral curved vanes comprises pouring a hardenable mixture into a mould having a number of removable individual pattern elements corresponding to the vanes and also a removable pattern member which in part supports said elements, allowing the moulding mixture to set, removing said pattern member and then removing the individual pattern elements from the core by moving them at least in part through the space previously occupied by the removable pattern member. A core box assembly for a core 18, Fig. 3, comprises a base member 28 with an upstanding annular portion 30, a split outer annular member 34, an inner annular member 32 for mounting upon the base member 28, and a number of vane pattern elements 36, which are located between the annular members by pins 76, 82, 84. The base plate 28 and the member 34 are held together by cam members 48 on posts 44, and the inner annular member 32 is held to the upstanding portion 30 by a similar arrangement 58, 64. After moulding, the member 32 is removed upwardly, the core, vane elements and member 36 removed as an assembly from the base member 30 and the vane elements then removed by radial inward movement, Fig. 7.
