Abstract

748,818. Casting composite tyre-moulds. HEINTZ CO., J. C. Oct. 14, 1953, No. 35156/54. Divided out of 748,792. Class 83 (1). In a method of casting the tread-forming element of a tyre-mould in a plaster of Paris mould comprising several sectors, sipes are pressed partially into the mould sectors while the plaster is still wet, and the metal is then cast around the protruding portions of the sipes to embed said portions in the metal. The plaster sectors 50 may be made by the method disclosed in Specification 748,817, [Group V], which is referred to, and the metal sipes 69 are pressed in while the plaster is still wet, by an apparatus comprising a base-plate 60, a plate 62 and a plate 65 slidably-mounted thereon between guide-blocks 66. Sipes are carried in openings 68 in the end of the slide 65 which is then pushed against the mould sector to embed the sipes therein. The holes 68 are then supplied with fresh sipes and the apparatus positioned for insertion of the sipes in the next desired part of the mould. The mould sectors are assembled, the metal cast, and the casting extracted and treated as described in Specification 748,792, which is referred to.
