Abstract

880,223. Repairing cables; sleeve couplings. SLATER CO. Ltd., N. July 8, 1959 [April 13. 1959], No. 23519/59. Classes 36 and 38 (1). [Also in Groups XXII and XXV] Helical wire or other resilient elements 1, used to secure the ends of broken cable together and to transmit electrical energy around the break, are formed on their inner, cable-engaging, surfaces with transverse corrugations or indentations 6. The element may be of aluminium, galvanized steel, bronze, stainless steel, copper, non-ferrous covered steel, synthetic or treated wood. The corrugations 6 may be cut into the wire. The elements 1 may be used either singly or grouped, Fig. 5, to be wrapped around the cable. Coating helical wire elements with aluminium oxide to improve the grip is admitted to be known. Specification 858,830 and U.S.A. Specifications 2,587,521, 2,609,653 and 2,761,273 are referred to.
