Abstract
1,242,494. Cables. FELTEN & GUILLEAUME KABELWERKE A.G. 10 Oct., 1969 [11 Oct., 1968], No. 49788/69. Head ng H1A. In the manufacture of a multicore power cable having a central metal support strand or rope 1, the support strand is first covered with a layer 2 of plastically deformable and relatively soft material and then with an extruded layer 3 of hardenable material having recesses for receiving the insulated cable cores 5, 6. The layer 3 is then hardened without hardening the layer 2 to form a support element 4 and the cores 5, 6 twisted on to the support element 4. The yielding of the inner layer 2 allows the support element 4 to twist with negligible resistance from the support strand 1. The cable is finally provided with an insulating sheath 7. The inner layer 2 may consist of plastics material or of a rubber free from vulcanizing agents and the outer layer 3 of plastics material or vulcanizable rubber. The cable may have four cores instead of three.
