Abstract

Overhead power line systems (220 - 750KV) carry >=2 lines where >=1 is partially insulated with a material having a high dielectric constant, pref. >=3, to reduce the force fields surrounding the cables in use sufficiently to allow the core potential to be increased (pref. doube) or the spacing between cables and/or their supports to be reduced (pref. halved). Associated line clamps or slings etc. are also insulated as necessary. Pref. cables are sheathed with polysulphone or with crosslinked polyethhlenee jacketed in polysulphone, pref. pigmented and/or filled with TiO2 or carbon black to increase its dielectric constant.
