Class 52(3) A page turner has an arm 8 carrying gripper 9 mounted on the oblique pivot 42 of the box 7 which contains a torsion spring and translates the motion of the core of the Bowden cable 10 into a rotational movement of the arm 8. The gripper 9 comprises a pin 21 carrying a reel of self adhesive tape which passes round roller 22 and is taken up on drum 23, the drum being fixed to the shaft 17 which is rotated so as to expose a fresh piece of tape after each turning of a page by a ratchet mechanism in the housing 20 being actuated by lever 18 and cord 26. The cycle of action when a page is turned is as follows: the arm 8 rotates with a page held by the gripper 9, the cord 26 engages a stop in the box 7 thus applying an increasing tension on the lever 18 which advances the tape and then causes the gripper to rotate about the pivot 13 finally freeing the page which by this time has moved past the spring loaded retaining finger 11 which has been temporarily released by the action of arm 8 on the end 28 of the finger. The Bowden cable is intended to be operated by a foot pedal. German Specification 800,273 is referred to.
