Abstract

882,777. Fishing-reels. MORRITT, K. P. July 5, 1960 [July 14, 1959], No. 24177/59. Class 48. A fishing-reel having a flyer 10 for winding the line on to a fixed spool 9 is provided with an adjustable friction clutch between a manually driven shaft 11, Figs. 3, 4, and a worm wheel 13 freely mounted on the shaft 11 and engaging a worm 14 driving the flyer 10. The clutch comprises a ratchet wheel 29 having a screwthread engagement with the shaft 11 and prevented from rotating in one direction by a spring pawl pivoted to the casing. A circular torsion spring 39 has one end secured to the shaft 11 and the other end secured to the ratchet wheel 29 and acts to hold the ratchet wheel 29 in contact with a friction washer 37 contacting the worm wheel 13. When the shaft 11 is rotated in the direction in which the ratchet wheel cannot rotate the latter traverses along the shaft and releases the clutch. The rotation of the shaft relative to the ratchet wheel is restricted to a part of a revolution by abutment of the screws 40, 41 used for securing the ends of the circular torsion spring 39 to the shaft and the ratchet wheel. The line is evenly wound on the spool 9 by causing the pick-up 27 to move to and fro across the spool by means of a mechanism comprising a worm wheel 21 mounted on the flyer 10 and meshing with a worm 22 secured to a fixed shaft 15 about which the flyer rotates and on which the spool 9 is mounted. As the flyer rotates the worm wheel 21 actuates a crank 19 operating a rocker 24 oscillating a shaft 25 carrying the pick-up 27.
