Abstract

879,476. Trusses. NELKIN, H. G., NELKIN, A. R., NELKIN, C., DINGER, M. H., NELKIN, N. R., and GOLDSTEIN, E., [trading as H. J. ENTERPRISES]. Aug. 17, 1959, No. 28084/59. Class 81 (2). A truss comprises a one-piece flexible fabric belt 6 having lengthadjusting means on the outer side of the middle portion and fastening means 44, 45 at the ends which are downwardly curved, one of the ends having a downwardly tapering extension 14 from which a leg strap 15 extends, a sponge rubber pad 35 of uniform thickness being affixed adjacent that end of the belt. Each end of the belt may have an extension 14, a leg-strap 15 and a pad 35. The belt has two stays 18, 19 on each side of its middle portion and a stay 31 disposed along the longitudinal axis of each pad 35. In use, the leg straps are detachably secured to buckles 60 which are fixed on each side of the middle portion of the belt. The middle portion of the belt is folded and stitched at the innermost stays 18 to form a box pleat which, when the truss is worn, separates the adjusting means from the body. Each stay 18, 19 is secured to the belt by webbing 22, 26, the webbing also serving to attach buckle-carrying straps 48, 55 to each innermost stay 18 and a strap 53 to each outermost stay 19. In use, each buckle-carrying strap adjustably co-operates with the strap 53 secured at the more remote outermost stay.
