selves. The outer portions of the band or belt 25 are also extended forwardly over the elastic inserts or sections I4 and the sections I2 and l0 around the sides and front of the device where one end is fastened as indicated at to a buckle 36. The free end of the other side of the Vband or belt is engaged with the buckle 36 and constitutes an extensible portion 3l by which the device may be tightened centrally around the waist and abdomen from the opposite edges of the central back section l1 so as to act practically entirely around the body. In order to cause the front vsection l0 to more properly conform to the abdomen and assist in the reducing action, a pair of upwardly divergent pocketsv 3,8 are secured upon opposite sides of the central front pocket 26 and converge downwardlyY from points in spaced relation to thepocket 25 at the top edge to the edges of the pocket at the boty is of special benefit in maintaining a graceful form'to the body and in confining the abdomen as a part of the restraining, supporting and reducing functions. u
In the use of the device, the band or belt 25 is loosened at the buckle 36 and applied as a stepin being slippedupwardly over thelegs and hips and adjusted to the body at and above the hips at the abdomen and waistline, stomach or diaphragm to be restrained, held in or contracted and supported while permitting free and unrestricted movements of the body in bending at the waist or otherwise, especially due to the flexible character of the construction and permitting free movements of the legs. A wide range of adjustment is permitted by reason of the sections of the belt or band -25 being extended through the loops at the back and folded upon themselves so as to effec-` tively draw the device into a confined area at the anchored front portion and between the same and the loops at the back due to the overlapping and divergent lace portions of the belt or band permittedby the buckle 36 or other suitable adjustable connectionfor the free ends of the belt. Owing to the fact that the laces are anchored intermediately of the ends thereof in back of the pocket 26, shifting of the laces is prevented so that the latter will always lie iiat against the section I0 and assist the stays 21 and 40 in maintaining the section l0 at and snugly conforming to the body at the front, especially on account of the convergent relation of the laces from the pocket26 to the end portions 34 of the band or belt' 25 to `whichthe extremities of the laces lare anchored as previously described.
While AI have illustrated and described the pr`eferred form of construction for carrying my in'` claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: L
1. A waist restrainer comprising an inelastic body section with tapered ends extending around the sides and toward the back of the wearer, a back section of inelastic material having a vertical stiffening member, elastic inserts between said back member and the ends of the body section, stiffening members at the front of the body section and a body restrainingmember. connected to the back section and having overlapping por-v tions consisting of inner and outer sections, the inner section being anchored at the front and the extremities of the other sections `being adjustably connected at the front.
2. A waist restrainer 4comprising an inelastic fabric body section having oppositely convex top and bottom edges tapering toward their extremities and terminating in oppositely concave edge portions cut on reverse curves, an inelastic section at the back having yspaced vertical stays, elastic inserts in said body section and between the same and the back section, the back section being pliable between the stays and having loops at each side, an inelastic band extended through therloorps and folded on itself with two end p0rtions extending forwardly around the outside of the body section,'a vertical pocket centrally at the front having a stay member and spaced eyelets on each side thereof, laces extended through said eyelets andanchored at'the back of the `pocket and stay member, the end portions of said laces being extended to the inner ends of the band and anchored thereto, the overlying portions of the band being adjustably connected at the ends thereof.
3. A waist restrainer comprising an inelastic fabric body section having oppositely convex top and bottom edges tapering toward their extremities and terminating in oppositely concave edge portions cut on reversecurves, an inelastic section at the back having spaced vertical stays, elastic inserts in said `body section and between the same and the back section, the back section `being pliable between the stays and having loops at each side, an inelasticv band extended through the loops and `folded on itself with two end portions extending forwardly around the outside of the body section, a vertical pocket centrally at the front having a stay member and spaced eyelets on each side fthereof, laces extended through said eyelets and anchored at the back of the pocket and stay member, the end portions of said laces being extended to the inner ends of the band and anchored thereto, the overlying portions of the band'4 being adjustably connected Vvat the ends thereof, and oppositely inclined and `downwardly converging pockets with stay members upon opposite sides of vthe vertical pocket and vstay member at the front of the body section. y
4. A Vwaist restrainer comprising an inelastic fabric body section having oppositely convex top and bottom edges taperingf toward their extremities and terminating in oppositely concave edge portions cut on reverse curves, an inelastic secat. each side, an inelastic band extended through the loops andv folded on itself with two end portions extending forwardly around the outside of Y the body section, and an adjustable buckle connection between the overlying end portions of the band at the front. g
5. A Waist restrainer including a body encircling portion having an adjustable belt comprising laces anchored at the front and sections connected to the laces, said sections being folded upon themselves and anchored to the outer ends of the laces and slidably supported at the back of the body encircling portion, certain ends of said sections being adjustablyv connected at the front. n
