Sept. 28, 1959 [Oct. 13, 1958], No. 32820/59. Class 81 (2). A surgical truss comprises a flexible multilayer pad 12, a belt 14 with one end fixed to the pad, a leg strap 16, a continuation of the leg strap secured to the pad to form a pocket 42, a stay 44 in the pocket and a loop 18 attached to the pad and carrying means 20 for releasably engaging the other end of the belt. The belt comprises an inner perforated layer of resilient material, e.g. sponge rubber, stitched to an outer inextensible layer 52. At its free end is a webbing strap 60 for engagement with a buckle 20 attached to the pad by the loop 18. The pad 12 comprises a resilient filling 34, e.g. sponge rubber, enclosed between a flannel bodycontacting layer 28 and an intermediate layer 30, the edges of the layers 28, 30 being bound together and secured to a front layer 24 of duck. One end of the leg strap 16 is stitched to the front layer to form the pocket 42. The other end of the leg strap is secured by a buckle 22 to the belt. The leg strap is covered with soft fabric 62, e.g. flannel.
