Abstract
879,335. Reciprocating pumps. DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd. March 5, 1959 [March 13, 1958 ; Oct. 28, 1958], Nos. 8139/58 and 34511/58. Class 102(1). A hand operated reciprocating pump, preferably arranged in an hydraulic pit prop, is provided with inlet and outlet valves wherein the inlet valve allows low pressure leakage from the pumping chamber so that the hand actuating control may be moved without the pump delivering liquid. In the embodiment shown, the piston 28 draws liquid from the reservoir 30 past the inlet valve 25 and delivers the liquid through the outlet valve 22 to the pressure chamber 13 of the prop. The inlet valve 25 is biased from its seat by a spring 26 and for low speeds of the delivery stroke of the piston 28 the liquid flows past this valve and back to the reservoir, but when the speed of the piston exceeds a predetermined value, the pressure in the pumping chamber closes the valve 25 and liquid is delivered past the outlet valve 22. In a modification, the inlet passage opens into an annular recess controlled by a resilient annular valve member which is spaced from the recess in its natural state and closes this recess at the predetermined speed of the piston.
