Abstract

879,161. Stoppers. HEISLER, J. S., and HEISLER, A. March 3, 1959 [March 5, 1958], No. 7432/59. Class 125(3). A closure for a polythene container 10 comprises a plug 20 having an external screwthread for engaging a threaded flange 11 of the container and a flange 31 forming a seal against a gasket 21 on a shoulder 15 of the flange 11, an internal socket 36 on the plug 20 receiving a plug stopper 22 and having at its lower end a rupturable diaphragm 38. The plug 20 is of a thermoplastic material, e.g. polyethylene or polyisobutylene. Recesses 41 for engagement by a tool are joined by opposed pairs of slots in a wall 40 to a central opening 35 formed in the flanged top of the plug 20. The flange 11 has an external screwthread for filting a metal or plastics cap.
