879,063. Slip couplings ; universal joints. SCHROTER, K., and WALTERSCHEIDMULLER, B. Sept. 8, 1959 [Sept. 8, 1958; May 14, 1959], No. 30708/59. Class 80 (2). In an overload release slip coupling for propeller shafts of the kind in which rollers 3 carried in a cage 2 fast with a driving hub 1 are pressed radially by springs 4 into recesses in a driven drum 5, the rollers 3 and complementary recesses are arranged in diametrically opposed pairs unequally spaced around each half circumference to provide 180 degrees relative rotation between each maximum torque transmitting engaged position. The correct angular relationship between universal joints at each end of the shaft is thereby maintained. The driving hub 1 is splined to an input shaft and axially positioned thereon by a ball 8 pressed into a groove in the shaft by a spring- pressed sleeve 9.
